Opening Visual Basic Editor Crashes Excel

I don't remember anything out of the ordinary happening, so this is just out of the blue.

I can run macros, but if I try to edit or open the Visual Basic Editor Excel hangs. I don't run any Add-is or COMs in general, deleted PERSONAL.xlsb, ran Office Repair, ran OffCAT, and looked at event viewer. I can't find anything that seems to be the culprit. Also, VB works as advertised in every other Office App.

Any suggestions?

Oh, Running Win 8.1 (64bit), Excel 2013 with latest sp's, etc.

Well, by posting I enacted the time old trick of finding the solution minutes later.

Solution: Opened the PERSONAL.xlsb using OPEN and REPAIR. (Using 2013 you have to open from Computer and get the dialog box. Open button has downward triangle.) I couldn't reuse the file, but the option of extracting the data worked minus some code I guess that was wonky.

Not sure how to mark this thread as Resolved.

Worked well for me so big thumbs up on this solution. Macros working again, no loss of any codes. The workbook that the macros are saved on was repaired and did the trick. Thanks JoseJones.

Hi, I have tried your solution. But I cannot find items you mentioned. There is no dialog box when I choose to open a new file. My Office is Office 365 (2016). Can you give me more guidance? Thanks!

Hello,

1. Open a new Excel file and then go to Files -> Open -> Browse (or CTRL+O)
2. Find the document which causes the problem (for instance : PERSONAL.XLSB)
3. At the right bottom of your window you can choose"open and repair"

Have a nice day
