I am having a hard time figuring this out please help...

I have four cells:
one cell uses a manual date entry we will call that one a1
The second cell uses a formula to input current date a2 =sum(today())
Third cell uses a formula to figure the days between the two dates and adds 1 =sum(a2-a1+1)
I want to set up the fourth cell so that my workers can enter a y and it will stop a2 at the current day its on basically date stamp it. Can I do this and if so can someone help me with the formula I would use?

Thank you for your help!
