It takes so little to stump me in excel these days. I've calculated the amount of time a person works in a day i.e. 8:45 (formatted h:mm). Now I need help converting those 8h 45m to 525m.

I searched prior posts but couldn't find my solution. I fear it's there somewhere and I overlooked it.

    Thanks for your help,

    G'day,

Have you tried multiplying the cell by 1440 and formatting the cell as a number? That should give you the number of minutes in a decimal format (e.g 8.5 = 8 minutes 30 seconds).

    Hi Rita,
Assuming it is a valid Excel time the function hour() will return the hours and minute() will return the minutes.

    =minute(A1)+60*hour(A1)

Of course this cell must not formated as time, but general or number.
    Hope this helps!

Hi Rita just Custom format the entry 8:45 as [mm] and you will see the selult in minutes displayed as 525
