Format date for days?

Is it possible to format a cell to show the DAY after you type in the DATE? For example, if a user would type "5/9/02" the cell would then convert it to "Thursday, May 9, 2002" upon exit. It sounds simple and I know it can be done in Word, but can Excel do it?

Try formatting the cell as: -

dddd, mmmm, d yyyy
