You're working on a sheet, say "sheet 1", and have a formula on that sheet which includes a cell on the same sheet. Why do I sometimes see that instead of showing A1 in the formula, it shows 'Sheet 1'!A1, as if it were picking up from another sheet?

Excel Facts

What is the fastest way to copy a formula?
If A2:A50000 contain data. Enter a formula in B2. Select B2. Double-click the Fill Handle and Excel will shoot the formula down to B50000.

One way that can happen is:

While entering a formula in a worksheet (WS1)you navigate to another (WS2) and return back to WS1, Excel will prefix the cells/ranges from WS1 with WS1!.
