can anybody tell me how a newbie like myself may make a Background Printable????

as far as I'm aware, it's for viewing only and won't print

Yes the Background is viewable on screen.

I was hoping for an Add in or other means of making the background Printable.

Although you can not print the background of the worksheet directly -- you may want to check if one of the following round about approaches will work for you:

1. You can highlite the area you are interested in and take a picture with Excel's built-in camera, and then paste it in another area to print it

2. You can take a screenshot of the window of interest -- then paste the picture somewhere, crop the picture as necessary, and then print it.
