Excel VBA increasing date value

Hello,

I have the following line of code:

Selection.Offset(0, 2).Value = Selection.Offset(0, 1).Value + 1

It does not add a day to the already existing date as intended but rather changes the date to 1/1/1900. Why is this?
I'm using Excel 2013. The Cell format is set to date.

Selection.Offset(0, 2).Value = Selection.Value + 1
