VLOOKUP

I am trying to do a simple comparison of data between two spreadsheets using vlookup. This formula works except in cases where the formatted cell contains a leading carrot (downloaded from another source). If I remove the carrot the vlookup formula works. I need an easy way to format the cells (over 1,000) without the carrot. I've tried everything I could think of. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Excel Facts

When they said...
When they said you are going to "Excel at life", they meant you "will be doing Excel your whole life".
Select your cells and use the Data | Text to Columns... menu command. BTW, I'm assuming that you mean apostrophe (').

Ahhh, did some research... perhaps you DO mean caret (^)!!

Choose the Tools | Options... menu command and uncheck "Transition navigation keys" on the "Transition" tab. But this may replace the caret with an apostrophe which will also "frustrate" your VLOOKUP. Anyway my earlier recommendation (Use Data | Text to Columns...) still applies! :)
