How can I sort vast amounts of data in excel

Hello

I'm working on a project in which I need to find out which dog breeds are most common in Belgium. For this I got an excel-file with 165.000 newly registerd dogs.

Now, what I'd really like is to get a top 10. So imagine there's 10.000 chihuahua, 8000 border collies and only 200 white shephards. I need the 10.000 chihuahua and border collies, but I'm not interested in the white shephards. So how can I use the search function is such a way I get only get the top 10 most common dogbreeds without having to do it manually?

Have you tried using the Top 10 feature in a pivot table?

I'm using excel 2007.

That was my first step, unfortuantly I don't have values, only 165.000 names of dogbreeds.
This is what it looks like:
Border collie
Border collie
Border collie
Border collie
Chihuahua
Chihuahua
Chihuahua
etc.
So I need the total numbers of all diferent breeds first. I'm using data - subtotal for that now but it takes ages to do that and I'm not quite sure it gives me want I want mainly:
1. Border collie: 10.000
2. Chihuahua: 8000
3. ...

In a pivot table you can add count of breeds to the data area. A field can be in the data area as well as in the row area.
