Dates keep changing!

I have a spreadsheet that I want to put the date it was created in a cell - quite simply using TODAY() - thats not the problem. I want that to be the date that stays there. Everytime I open the spreadsheet it updates the date to the day I opened it - BUT I want the original date.

What formula / way can I do this?

Use control and ; to put the date in it want change. =today() will change to show the current day

Hi SImon,

CNTRL and ; will add the date (well, it does on mine)

I suppose you could then protect that cell if needed

If the date should always stay wouldn't you just type the date into the cell?

Yeppers, good point : but if you don't know the date you'd fiddle around searching for a newspaper or a calender, of hovver your mouse over the time in the bottom of the right of your screen then type it in

or just hit CNTRL ; in Excel, the application that's open and running right infront of me when I'm confronted with this "problem".

I have to add though, I do know today is the 28th of February, but only cos it's payday at last
