Can anyone help?

I am trying to conditional format a blank cell to fill RED, can this be done?

I have tried cell value = "" but it doesn't like this!

Kind Regards
Carly

Excel Facts

Did you know Excel offers Filter by Selection?
Add the AutoFilter icon to the Quick Access Toolbar. Select a cell containing Apple, click AutoFilter, and you will get all rows with Apple
Hey Carly,

Use a formula rather than "Cell is" and just type

=isblank(F11) or your cell obviously.

Thats brilliant thanks.

How can I now say if it has something in it (i.e. IsNotBllank)?

or simplify to two statements rather than two functions:

=ISBLANK(A1)=TRUE

=ISBLANK(A1)=FALSE

Hi Carly:

in reference to using Cell Value Is

Cell Value Is equal to ="" did work for me!

chances are you had used:

Cell Value Is equal to "" that will not work.

This is helpfull

However i have a question on my conditional formatting

if cell value is between 1 and 2.4 colour = amber
if cell value is less than 1 colour = red
If the cell value is grater then 2.4 it has to be green
however if cell has no value in it it needs to be white.

Any help on that conditonal formatting please

Thanks

Hi,

I have the same issue.
In Conditional Formatting open "Use formula to determine which cells to format"
here you can type "=IFBLANK(??)" and select the cells you want to consider...
Finally in Preview you select Format - Fill - No Color
PS: if you type the cell N16 between the brackets, all the conditional formatting range will refer to cell N16, if you select the cell from spreadsheet, it will automatically update row and column...

Try this:
1. Select cells you want to format
2. On Home Ribbon go to Conditional Formatting --> Highlight Cells Rules --> More Rules...
3. In "New Formatting Rule" pop-up select "Format only cells that contain" option from "Select a Rule Type:" section
4. In same pop-up window select "Blanks" options from drop-down-list given under "Edit the Rule Description:" section
5. Again, in same pop-up window click "Format.." button to define type of formatting you wish and click "Ok" to close window
