Refering the formula cell in the formula

Are there any way to refer to the formula cell in the written formula. For example, I want to write the below formula in
CELL B1;

=IF(A1="";"cell is blank";ROW(B1))

I want to fill the dotted place in the formula with a function that gives the rownumber of the Cell B2. My purpose is not to write there Row(B1). I need a way or function that I can refer to "formula cell". VBA is useless for this problem.

I am a little confused. Can you provide and example of a few cells worth of dummy data and where/what you want your formula to accomplish?

Based on how this is written up so far...the results are what that particular formula would return. If cell A1 is empty it would return "cell is blank" if that cell is NOT empty then it would return a 1 as that is the row number of cell B1.

I am not entirely clear about what you are after either, but perhaps the following with help.

If you use the ROW function without an argument, like this ROW(), it will return the row number of whatever row the formula is found in.
So, if you put =ROW() in cell A14, it would return 14.
Is that what you are after?
