Thumbs up I have come out from the shadows

to intro myself! I feel like I have stepped on sacred ground!
I work from home supporting professionals and one of them needs me to learn Excel, right - always been a novice. Then I got this big project to put together a merge with autofields based on other autofields or formulas... and let's just say that Mr. Excel and I have pulled many an all nighter Out of all the many sites out there that say they can help... ya'll are BY FAR the easiest to understand at my modest level of skill, the clearest, and I like you the best! So after popping in here so much over the last couple of months...I decided to jump in head first! To say....
firstly - thank YOU all! You have no idea how much you have helped me grow in my Excel aspirations. And I am SO grateful.
and secondly - I love how y'all respect each other, don't use crude language, and the air around here is just - nice, you know? I really like it.

Thank you for having a safe place for everyone to come to, from new to the king Mr. Excel :D I'll apologize ahead of time for my likely questions that will be like nada to y'all and thank you now for your grace and patience haha

    - Holli

    Welcome Holli!

As you've found, this is a great resource for all things Excel. There are some very smart people here who are very generous with their time. I've learned a lot here, and been fortunate enough to pass on a few things I've picked up.

And I agree, the moderators here do a great job of keeping things civil. We don't get a lot of the nastiness that seems to permeate the internet.

So feel free to post your questions here, and if you happen to spot a question you know something about, you can answer that too! I find that's a great way to learn too.

    Cheers,
    Eric

It is one of our cornerstones and we work pretty hard to keep it that way. It is refreshing to hear when someone notices and expresses their appreciation of that feature of the forum. Thank you!

.. and don't worry about 'nada' questions here. We were all novices once.

    Hello Holli

I love your name, HolliIsAwesome. That is so cute. Like you, I’m fairly new to Excel and am still struggling with what I’m sure most people find to be simple problems. One thing I’ve done is to create a special spreadsheet. Any free time I have, I read over other people’s questions, and if it is something I think I might run into someday, I copy the question and solution into this spreadsheet. When I’m not sure how to code something, I refer to this sheet first of all, and many times I’ll find a solution, or one that I can modify, to solve my current problem. This is quicker and easier than searching MrExcel trying to find the answer, and it also serves as a reference sheet that I’ll read from time to time trying to remember all the solutions.

This website is a gold mine of information, and as you have found, the people here go way out of their way to help us beginners. I’ve been lucky enough to offer a solution to a couple of people, and it is a wonderful feeling when they write back so excited because a problem they have struggled with for hours or days, has been solved. I look forward to reading any questions you may have. Maybe we both can learn something from the help you’ll receive.

TotallyConfused (believe me, many times I still am)

Hi Confused, I agree - there are some great solutions here and I've kept a few myself. But what you can do is go to 'Thread Tools' at the top of the first post and Subscribe to the thread. I put my threads in a folder I created called Favorites.

To access it later, go to Settings (top right corner) and on the left side of the page that loads, under the Subscriptions group, you'll see your custom folder and can look at the threads you've saved.

Admittedly - you'll have to read through to find the solution, vs having the answer pasted to your sheet.

*lol* - Just had a look at my saves - I've started my second page of saved threads!
