It is ridiculous that simply to "hide" rows in a large data sheet that Excel will "hang" and there is no effective escape or get out which does not incur a considerable loss of previously applied functions.
I find it quite ridiculous that Microsoft claim that Excel can handle up to 2 Gig of data...
in my experience it will readily screw itslef up with less than 0.5 Gig

Excel Facts

Why are there 1,048,576 rows in Excel?
The Excel team increased the size of the grid in 2007. There are 2^20 rows and 2^14 columns for a total of 17 billion cells.
is that a general discussion statement?

I totally sympathize with the statement - a possible help would be to turn off automatic calculations till hide/show - format changes - display tweaks are done, then turn calculations back on and experience the 'slowness' fewer times.

Mole - it is of little import as to whether this is a general discussion point or whatever...
the crux of the matter is that the capability of Excel as claimed by Microsoft appears falacious...
GR - ty for the suggestion - it's the sort of operation that should be addressed by Excel as by rote or default - not that one has to derive such heuristically.

Actually from a forum point of view, it is quite important as it determines where this thread belongs.
