Hello Friends,

I was wondering, Say someone is an expert in both :
1. Excel.
2. VBA.

What jobs can benefit from his/her experience of the above?

Thanks,
Nawaf

Some XL/VBA "Gurus" gain work almost exclusively in a consultancy role (though there are only a few who can make a living from XL/VBA consulting alone). Therefore many have other programming languages/skills that they can bring to consultancy.

Many work in Finance Departments around the World, where their skills often compliment a recognised Accounting Qualification.

Others work in a Management Information / Business Intelligence role. Again, XL/VBA skills alone are often not enough. Many people in this area have a database / data mining skillset in terms of working with Databases, for example SQL Server or Oracle.

Others write books - although there's probably not much room left for "another" Excel author!

Does this help.

All in all, being proficient in Excel/VBA alone is not in my opinion a guarantee of regular, well paid work. In most cases the XL/VBA skillset needs to compliment something else.

As Will said, Excel / VBA often needs to be combined with something else. An understanding of the industry you are working in, and good problem solving skills, go a long way.
Also, some database skills are a definite benefit because sometimes you will need to transfer very large amounts of data around and Excel just doesn't cut it for that. If you have to grab a few million records, slice and dice them, and then push those to a corporate system, you at least need a good working knowledge of Access.
I guess the message is: add another skill to Excel / VBA and you can easily make a living out of it, either as a consultant or in a different role in your current place of work.
