Hi,

I created a simple append record to append 12 records from Table 1 to Table 2. The result in Table 2 has repetitive data by duplicating each of the 12 records by 162 times. 162 is the original number of records in Table 2. Why does this happen?

To add what Kreszch68 said, you have what is called a Cartesian Product. If you don't have a join between the two tables, it will create a record for every combination of records that the two would make. So, you want to join on the common field/fields.

Thank you for your replies.

I tried joining the fields between both tables.

Table 1's fields are Months from 2012
1)Month 2) Year 3) Quarter

Table 2's fields are historical accumulation of months from 2007 to 2011
1) Month 2) Year 3) Quarter

I am having some challenges in structuring the join because the rows from Table 1 are new records. I would like to append 12 records from Table 1 to Table 2. Do I create the 3 joins on all fields and which join type should I use?

Thank you in advance.

Do you really need table 2 in your design window?
If you want to add records from Table1 to Table2, you don't need table 2 in the query design.
