Want something besides switchboard or navigation form

I am used to using buttons or the switchboard for access operations which seemed clunky. Now they have a navigation form for reports. I am looking for something different that controls everything. I have seen screen shots for one at TheUAIC.com that seems fairly simple and has some nice features I like:<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>
It has everything for navigation controlled by one form.<o></o>
It can be used to open/execute everything like – Reports, Forms, Queries, Macros, Code etc.<o></o>
Once a selection has been made it has an area that explains in greater detail of what the Report, Form, Query, Macro, Code etc. is about.<o></o>
Documentation can be easily accessed for the selection.<o></o>
Due dates can be also viewed and edited quickly for the selection.<o></o>

My question is has anybody used this before or know or other navigation systems for Access that may similar or better?<o></o>

Hi James,

The UAIC form looks interesting and I like the idea of having a single search form for the database.

The link on this forum is for permissions but it can also be used to launch forms, reports, queries etc. The permissions part is for restricting certain functionality (eg, admin changes to settings) to particular groups of people. You can also set forms to open read-only for people who can't be trusted with data (managers).

Another advantage over switchboard layouts is that, because the main interface is a few listboxes, you don't need to create a new button and adjust your layout when you add a couple more reports. Just add a record to an admin table.

They both have their good points. The permissions system will most likely require some customisation on your part but it's free. The other system is a commercial download.

In reply to alansidman: I am trying as many different message boards as I can in order to get as many different responses I can. Thanks for the help.

In reply to SydneyGeek: I took a quick look at it. I know some code but not a whole lot. I think I can see how to change it to load different objects like forms, reports etc. but I do like the UAIC if it involves just changing tables. The other items I really like about the UAIC is

• only one form
• quick access to documenation for the selection to keep track of changes. Also use documentation drop down for information for users.
• due dates are viewed in in the drop down and can be edited quickly
• an area below to show information to the user that is most important.
• it has a unique identifying number for the selection
• it also has an internal report number that I could use for the selection
• a specific category can be subdivided in the list

I will be trying more message boards to see if anyone has any other suggestions.
