It would be interesting if someone could outline the main differences between these two books.

As a beginner, I am not quite sure which one to buy :)

Cheers

Hi JakeSwe.

your question is which to start with. 'Don't Fear The Spreadsheet' assumes that you know 'Zero' about Excel; if you've no experience with Excel at all, start with 'Don't Fear The Spreadsheet'. This book came about as the result of the realization that some folks do not know anything about Excel - AT ALL. More over, some folks haven't the time to play the 'trial and error' game or just don't have the interest; they just want [or NEED] to use Excel without the pain.

You can check out the most recent podcasts for the book at the blog page:
Why and How the book came about: http://learnmrexcel.wordpress.com/2...he-spreadsheet-how-it-all-began-podcast-1560/
Example of what the book covers and from what points of view: http://learnmrexcel.wordpress.com/2...preadsheet-12-13-becomes-13-dec-podcast-1561/ http://learnmrexcel.wordpress.com/2...r-of-my-selection-isnt-selected-podcast-1563/ http://learnmrexcel.wordpress.com/2...readsheet-freeze-panes-in-excel-podcast-1565/ http://learnmrexcel.wordpress.com/2...adsheet-access-popular-commands-podcast-1567/ http://learnmrexcel.wordpress.com/2012/07/03/dont-fear-the-spreadsheet-print-report-podcast-1569/

The 'Slaying Dragons' book comes from a stand that assumes that you at least know something about Excel; I love Mike's work here, but if you know nothing of Excel then it may be just a little more than you wanted for now. 'Don't Fear' assumes nothing and covers the basics and the potential power of Excel for users with examples and simple instruction - there is nothing intermediate or advaned about the 'Don't Fear' book.
