Courrupted file problems

For some bizarre reason files that were working happily now have corrupted file errors with a " a would you like to recover" message. What is stranger is since i use dropbox I can rewind several versions that were working and get the same error. Can anyone explain how an error can get into an old working file that has since been superseded by several other working versions?

if I recover i get this error message.
Repaired Records: Slicer Cache from /xl/slicerCaches/slicerCache43.xml part (Slicer Cache)

Is this a workbook error or an error in my installation. i have tried both excel 2010 and converting it to excel 2013?

Thanks for any advice as not sure whether it is safe to proceed with the repaired workbook and the last working version is over 20 versions ago.
