Changing Filters leaves Running OLAP query on forever

Old, past its sell by date, workbook that can't be upgraded that I'm trying to nurse across the finish line. Just wondering if there is anything I can do as becoming unworkable. Latest issue is if I try to change the row filter it takes forever to finish calculating. I thought there was some kind of caching going on so these kinds of answers came up quickly. They did do back in the day so I'm wondering if there is some cache somewhere that needs clearing out or anything else that would have turned it to treacle? Adding an existing measure to the same pivot doesn't take too long so seems odd that change the filter/slicer is so bad.

Any suggestions appreciated

Mike

Can you sort left to right?
To sort left-to-right, use the Sort dialog box. Click Options. Choose "Sort left to right"
My best guess would be "cross slicer filtering" (where selecting California... removes Dallas and Chicago from your city list). If you have several slicers... that can be gnarly on performance.

Hi Scott

I haven't changed anything in the setup recently so its the same old pivot table. I'm obviously merrily corrupting stuff as I go along!!! I should have said this is Excel 2010. I was wondering if there are any folders/cache that get filled up and need emptying out form time to time.

Gotcha. I have never really messed with this, but maybe try searching your drive for *Vertipaq*. You will likely find some interesting files.

I would certainly think so... should be just cached results? No idea if they will impact your perf...
