I have a flat file that I want to drive a Pivot Table. However, instead of showing values in the Pivot Table Values Box, I want to show text data from the flat file. Basically, I am trying to create a summary cheat sheet with catalog number for our business. Ideally I would use Slice to pick either Part Number, UPC code or Inventory. Inventory makes this a dynamic sheet. My Row Labels I have Color and in my Column labels I have 3 different attributes to describe the unique part number. In Values box I ahvCatalog number but in the pivot tables it show the Sum. I want the text. What does anyone suggest I do to solve problem.

Excel Facts

Which came first: VisiCalc or Lotus 1-2-3?
Dan Bricklin and Bob Frankston debuted VisiCalc in 1979 as a Visible Calculator. Lotus 1-2-3 debuted in the early 1980's, from Mitch Kapor.
You can always add text as rows items. Alternatively you can return a text scalar value into the values section using a measure in Power Pivot. This is not possible with traditional pivot tables.

As an alternative, have you considered just creating an Excel table and adding one or more slicers on the table?
