  1. Re: Need to save a copy of a workbook with a new name

The solution you referenced shows the path to be a static path. We've moved on to include a way to pick a location to save the file. However, this dialog box shows a field with the filename and gives...
  2. Re: Need to save a copy of a workbook with a new name

I tried it out with msoFileDialogSaveAs and it errored out at .Filters.Add "Excel Files", "*.xlsm*". I'm getting Run-time error '438': Object doesn't support this property or method. I commented this...
  3. Re: Need to save a copy of a workbook with a new name

That's awesome. I feel like I'm pushing my luck here, but the more we do, the more I get creative.

Since we've already asked for a new filename, and I can put that in the title of the SaveAs...
  4. Re: Need to save a copy of a workbook with a new name

Now we're getting into deeper waters and I'm having trouble staying afloat.

I definitely don't want to save to the same path as the original. The original is a tool I use, but the saved document...
  5. Re: Need to save a copy of a workbook with a new name

I'm testing the savepath option with:

Sub TEST_SAVE_COPY_WITH_PATH() Dim strAFN1 As String, strAFN2 As String, strAFN3 As String, strAFN4 As String, strResult As String
    Dim strPath As...
  6. Re: Need to save a copy of a workbook with a new name

Tried it. I got a Run-time error '13': Type mismatch. I assumed it was the 0 in the If statement and changed it to quotes just like in formulas. It worked. I also liked my code where I had a message...
  7. Re: Need to save a copy of a workbook with a new name

Can you tell me how to keep the macro from displaying an error if I hit CANCEL if I change my mind? It also leaves behind the newly copied workbook when it errors out.
  8. Re: Need to save a copy of a workbook with a new name

So I'd want the "false" because we already saved the document. Interesting. Thank you.
  9. Re: Need to save a copy of a workbook with a new name

That works perfectly. I think I can edit the InputBox to add instructions such as "don't include the extension" or something else, but it does exactly what I wanted. Thank you.

    I have a question...
  10. Re: Need to save a copy of a workbook with a new name

After all this, a simple line works to create a copy without breaking references.

    ActiveWorkbook.Sheets.Copy

I still have to manually save as a different name, but the references aren't...
  11. Re: Need to save a copy of a workbook with a new name

That's not going to work at all for me.

Workbook1 will not be closed. The whole point is to not have it close or be renamed. I only want to save a copy of Workbook1 when I need it without...
  12. Re: Need to save a copy of a workbook with a new name

I tried the macro you wrote. It asked me for the name of a new file, which I entered, but I can't find that file saved anywhere. You asked that I put the name I want in [book1] in the macro. I put...
  13. Re: Need to save a copy of a workbook with a new name

You're overthinking the "why I need this". WB1.xlsm is what I need to make a copy of. WB2.xlsm has the formulas that reference WB1.xlsm. WB1.xlsm never references WB2.xlsm.

    Example: Formula in...
  14. Re: Need to save a copy of a workbook with a new name

i just now figured out what you were saying. If I wasn't clear, I only need Workbook #2 to reference Workbook #1 . Workbook #2 will never need to reference the newly saved workbook. It is saved for...
  15. Re: Need to save a copy of a workbook with a new name

After experimenting with the SaveAs and SaveCopyAs, my personal macro file is now renamed twice. I exited all Excels and found my Personal Macro file still existed, so that was a relief. I'll hold...
  16. Re: Need to save a copy of a workbook with a new name

Renaming the files every time will not work for me. The files must remain the same. They are not a paired set of files whose names I can continue to rename. In fact Workbook #1 is Read-Only. I open...
  17. Re: Need to save a copy of a workbook with a new name

Now that I'm still googling for answers, it occurs to me that I should mention I can't change Workbook #1 itself, so I can't add buttons or messageboxes to the actual workbook. I'll need this to be...
  18. Save a copy of a workbook with a new name

I have two workbooks that I open every day. Workbook #2 relies on cells in workbook #1 . Occasionally, I need to save Workbook #1 with a different name, but when I "save as", it changes the...

Re: Creating a Prorate Calculator Tool

Seriously, any help on any part of this to get me going in the right direction would be helpful.

Can I format text in a formula?
    What function would be best?
Can I get 3 different results from...

    Creating a Prorate Calculator Tool

I've created a tool where I can put in a monthly fee and an end date for that fee to calculate how much of that fee should be charged for the days used in that month. If there is a mid-month rate...

Re: Date Picker in Protected Worksheet

I guess there isn't an answer here. Why would MS allow you to use add-ins without being able to protect them? They must have thought of a way.

I'm at home right now but the computer is at work. I'm pretty sure it is Office 2010 with whatever add-in comes with it.

Re: Date Picker in Protected Worksheet

Code? I'm not using code. I'm using the Microsoft Date and Time Picker Add-in. Unprotecting the worksheet to use it is not feasible. Others will be using this and it should just work. "Select the...

    Date Picker in Protected Worksheet

I'm trying to create a spreadsheet where people can't mess with the formulas and I'd like to use the Date Picker on it. The problem is that once I protect the worksheet, the Date Picker no longer...
