    Does not occur on the Toshiba or Hp machines.

    The Outcome, following the reinstall that did not change anything, is that I was being recognised as a User rather than Administrator and this restricted my access to ThisWorkbook object.

    Yes, Excellent, that has worked for me. Clunky, as you say, but named to a handle like "Test" it does not matter at all.
