Joe Chirilov is a long-time project manager on the Excel team. He summed it up best when he noted: “One of the perks of working on an awesome product like Excel: Fan Videos”.

With the May 5, 2015 release of Excel Func from Professor Steve Tuttle, the Top 10 Excel Song Parody list gets a shake-up. Here, for your viewing pleasure are the top 10 Excel songs.

#1: Excel Funcs (Parody of Uptown Funk)

Not just clever lyrics, but great production values and a riff “Excel Func You Up” that gets caught in your head. Coming in at #1 is U.T. MIS professor Clint Tuttle with Excel Funcs.

#2: Pivot Tables Make Everything Just Right

This looks like a few high school students, lead by @youarentbenjamin singing about Cells and Rows.

#3 Santa Baby, Excel Style

Szilvia Juhasz, backed by the Big Lucky Band belts out a great Excel holiday number. If it wasn’t 80 degrees in Akron Ohio today, this might rank higher. “I’ll let you touch my XY Scatterplot, Santa Baby”. Hot.

#4 All About that Paste

Professor Clint Tuttle has two songs in the Top Five with his acoustic guitar rendition of It’s All About that Paste, Copy & Paste.

#5 Bye, Bye, Excel & I

Another great voice – Karen X Cheng sings about her days on the Excel team, to the tune of Bye Bye American Pie. Some inside baseball here, but I’ve been in Building 36, so I get it.

#6 Dueling Excel Theme

You will see a lot of your favorite Excel MVP’s in this song & animated movie by Szilvia Juhasz for the Dueling Excel podcast series.

#7. Dean Pelton from the NBC Sitcom, Community

It is short. It is not catchy. But Excel was a huge story arc in this episode of Community. Since NBC reaches a 3E7 viewers, this 21 second ditty makes it into the Top 10.

#8 Best Skills In Your Life

Professor Clint Tuttle again, with a parody of The Best Days In Your Life.

#9 Royals Parody

This video shows how much we’ve learned in the last 2 years, such as the all-important rule of “hold your cell phone landscape when shooting video for YouTube”, but the portrait framing from row 2 doesn’t take away from the catchy lyrics from Clint Tuttle.

#10. We all Work with Excel Spreadsheets (Yellow Submarine parody)

There are a couple of versions of this Karen X Cheng song floating around. It would be great to have one  with better sound.

There you have it… the top 10 Excel tribute songs on YouTube. If you run across more, or if you want to make one of your own, drop me a note at

Oh wait… #11 Don’t Fear the Spreadsheet by George Wood. George Wood has composed a number of short podcast themes for the TWIT network and for the MrExcel podcast. Who can forget the Office 2007 theme for Where is it Wednesday – “It’s a Great Feature, I just can’t find it anymore…”. But of all the George Wood themes, I like this More Cowbell tune the best. Cameo here by DFSS co-author Tyler Nash.
