Gridlines are turned off by default

When I open a new excel document or add a new sheet, the gridlines are turned off by default. Opening in safe mode (excel /safe) shows gridlines. I have done multiple work arounds, but no luck.

I added the gridlines and saved as Book.xltx in XLSTART, but still off by default. I ran a repair Microsoft Office, still gridlines off by default. Uninstalled and reinstalled office. Still gridlines are off by default.

This is my current Excel version:
Microsoft® Excel® for Microsoft 365 MSO (Version 2112 Build 16.0.14729.20254) 64-bit

Can anyone tell me what the heck is going on?

Hi,

I don't have 365, but it should be the same.

Check from File tab>Options>Advanced
Scroll down to "Display options for this worksheet"
Make sure "Show gridlines" is checked. Click OK

Thanks for your reply. The problem is that this is turned off by default. Meaning that when I close excel and reopen it, the gridlines are turned off again.
