When I open excel 2010 and save the file and then go back and look at it, the file type says "Microsoft Office Excel 2007 workbook". I am only using it on one home computer and my version says cleary 2010. Is something wrong or is this normal? It seems weird.

Format cells as date
Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+3 to format cells as date. (Shift 3 is the # sign which sort of looks like a small calendar).
It is normal. Both Excel 2010 and Excel 2007 use the same file type. That said, Excel 2010 has some features not available in Excel 2007, but this is a matter of the application software, not the file type as such. In short, no worries ...
