There are several ways to get what appears to give the same answer

Code:
    Set WSH = CreateObject("Wscript.Network")

    UserWSH = WSH.UserName
    UserApp = Application.UserName
    UserEnv = Environ("username")

Say my name is Joe Smith
I have seen the "username" in the following directory

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp

as "jsmith" as well as "Joe Smih"

Any explanation and which one would always get me to that temp directory?

Excel Facts

What does custom number format of ;;; mean?
Three semi-colons will hide the value in the cell. Although most people use white font instead.
You could use:
Code:
ChDir "C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp"
to change to that directory.

Application.Username will give you the Product License user name (i.e Joe Smith). Environ("username") will give you the current system user name (i.e. jsmith).

So you'd probably want to use the second one. Make sure to use a LCase or UCase argument though. For example I can logon to my PC with either "CSmith" or "csmith", but my Doc & Settings folder is "CSmith".

HTH,

Smitty
