I have an excel spreadsheet I am looking at and the cell has the following:

{=table(j2,h2)}

1) What does the curly bracket mean?
2) How do I look for the programming in "table"

I looked at Macros and not there.

help!

Excel Facts

What do {} around a formula in the formula bar mean?
{Formula} means the formula was entered using Ctrl+Shift+Enter signifying an old-style array formula.

Curly brackets usually mean an array function. They are added with Ctrl+Shift+Enter in the formula bar ( adding them manually will not work)
As for the table function, I have no idea

Thanks.

The "table" probably refers to the name of this function. How do I look at the coding of this function?

This is doing some calculation.

Thanks.

Hi ygilbert

You cannot look at the code of Table() as this is not an UDF, it's a native excel function.

You can access the Data Table feature

- in excel 2007, Data>What if Analysis>Data Table
- in previous versions, directly in the Data menu, Data>Table

This feature is great for the test of data models. The fact that you are using the 2 parameters tells that you are testing 2 variables of the model.

I'm working with these tables again. It uses the =table(j2,h5.

When I hit Ctrl+shift+enter, I keep getting an error 'That function is not valid"

Please help!

You cannot enter the Table function as a stand-alone function. You have to use the Data | Table command to use it.

I even tried using the Data|Table option. When I hit Ctrl+shift+enter it returns a long error again stating that "this seleciton is not valid"

and goes on to list several possible reasons.

I got it to work a couple of months ago...so weird that it does not now!

There is no formula to enter when you use the Data | Table command. Excel does all the work for you. Take another look at how the functionality works.
