[EXCEL] How to keep the "0" if you type a phone number in

On excel how do you allot a "0" at the begining of a phone number

If I type in 01423 249384 and press enter it would come up as 1423 249384

Format the cell as Text then type in the number.

Have you actually tried this ? I tried it in Excel 2003 and it works just fine, keeping the leading 0. It works AS LONG AS you have the space in the middle.

one method is when typing the numbre in start with a single quote then the number and excel will treat it as text, 01234 56789 becomes '01234 56789

u can use custome format to show '0' for ur numbers

Press Ctrl+1>Number tab>select custom>and choose "[<=9999999]###-####;(0###) ###-####" format that is available.

u can delete "-" & "()" for ur own requirments.
