I am trying to save a range as a graphic image file (jpg, png). I know I can paste it into a graphics program, like Paint, but was hoping for something a little more straightforward.

I found this article on the Microsoft website which claims to provide a way to save a picture as a graphic image, so I thought I could save the range as a picture and then save that as a graphic file.

Save a picture as a .jpg, .gif, or .png - Excel - Office.com

It works up through step 4. Step 5 doesn't work as advertised for me.

Before starting the procedure in the above link, I first create a graphic image of the range in the worksheet:

  1. Select the range.
  2. Copy to clipboard (C-C).
  3. Paste as Picture (Paste > As Picture > Paste as Picture).

Now I have the cell range as a picture in the worksheet, so I try the procedure outlined in the link above:

  1. Select the picture.
  2. Copy to clipboard (C-C).
  3. Paste special (Paste > Paste Special).
  4. In the Paste Special dialog box, select a graphic format, such as JPEG, and click OK. This creates a second graphic image in the worksheet.
  5. Right-click the image, then click Save as Picture. This option is not available on my right-click dropdown menu.

What am I doing wrong?

Is there any simple way to save a cell range as a graphic file without resorting to a graphic program or a macro?

Excel Facts

Pivot Table Drill Down
Double-click any number in a pivot table to create a new report showing all detail rows that make up that number
What version of Excel do you have?

Sorry, Office 2007 Pro. I thought I had that in my sig. I do now.

Edit: It seems 'Save As Picture' applies only to PowerPoint:

Yes, so it seems. That's strike two on MSFT. :)

That procedure uses a graphics program (Powerpoint). It also works with Paint or Visio or any other graphics program. Well, so much for the Microsoft claim that the Office suite is compatible across the board.

Thanks
