I entered a date in the cell. However, it is showing the correct date in the formula bar and in the cell it is showing the subsequent date of the cell above it. For eg I entered Dec -18-2014

The cell above is dec-7-2014 and so the cell below shows Dec -8-2014 instead of Dec-18-2014

How can I correct it.

What is =ROMAN(40) in Excel?
The Roman numeral for 40 is XL. Bill "MrExcel" Jelen's 40th book was called MrExcel XL.
I'm sorry but I don't quite understand the wording of your problem. You entered "Dec-18-2014" into a cell and somehow changed to "Dec-8-2014"?

right click the cell and goto format cells

on the first tab number format check that the setting is not set to custom

just use a date format this should correct it

the date you want in the sample window should like something like this MMM,DD,YYYY ( i think)

i think the problem is your current format is only showing one figure of the day example MMM,D,YYYY
