I have a total amount in field C2 that changes as I enter daily amounts in each row under it, C3:C*. Currently, every time I enter a daily amount, say for field C3 or C4, etc., I have to go back to C2 and change the formula so it will sum from C3:C4, followed by the next day, C3:C5, thereby repeating this pattern almost daily. I understand I could just use a very high number like sum(C3:C200), but I would like it if the total amount in cell C2 would update itself based on whether cells C3:C* may have a number in it or even a date in B3:B*.

So, basically rather than selecting a wide range of cells for the total amount in C2, I'm hoping Excel can somehow auto increment the range as I enter amounts for each day.

I hope this makes sense!

Excel Facts

Format cells as date
Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+3 to format cells as date. (Shift 3 is the # sign which sort of looks like a small calendar).
Try =SUM(C:C)

Put this formula in another column.

This will sum the entire column, so make sure there is nothing in the column you don't wish to be summed.
