When I go into the Excel VBA Projects window the above referenced file along with a couple of others are password protected. Why is this file password protected, and what is its function?

Links? Where??
If Excel says you have links but you can't find them, go to Formulas, Name Manager. Look for old links to dead workbooks & delete.

fruncres.xla is the "analysis toolpak addin". It's password protected

a) so MS can protect the intellectual property that the coding behind the various analysis toolpack functions represents
b) so you don't go poking about in it & mess things up.

curious vba'ers notwithstanding, installing the analysis toolpack (tools | addins) gives you all the access to the file you need.

The funcres.xla is the add-in with the data analysis functions including the Fast Fourier Transformation. It is protected for your protection. You can uninstall it if you don't need the data analysis.
