MrExcel mentioned the following:
Case 2 (Windows in Taskbar On): Now, this is interesting. Apparently XL does not expose the windows to the OS until at least two have been open. A good demonstration of this is to close/re-open XL, and open a blank workbook. Now use Alt+Tab to switch between applications. You should only see one XL icon in the list. Now, open a second workbook and use Alt+Tab again. You should now see three XL icon's (1 for the application, and two for each workbook). At this point all future workbooks will be exposed to the OS during that application instance.
I am experiencing this and hate how it screws up the alt-tab operation. Alt-tab usually displays the last window you had open and when you hit tab again it shows the second last window you last used, etc. With this extra icon in the mix this sequencing gets screwed up. Is there any way to fix this problem? Is Microsoft going to fix it? Would going to XP-Pro fix it? What about upgrading to office 2003?
