Hello All,

I know this is going to be simple but i can not work out an average of the following

B3 = C4
C3 = D4
D3 = D4
E3 = D4
F3 = C3

The standard formula for working out averages is giving me an error because i believe its because i have letters in my cells.

Is there any one who can help.

Thanks

The sheet is a bit busy but has instructions on what stuff does.

An example of three students taking six courses.

Change the letter grades in the F, G & H columns for each student for each class and note the GPA and "average" letter grades change.

The letter values are posted on the sheet and are changeable.

Care to record here what you are proposing, so we don't have to rush to a file which may vanish some day?

Hi Aladin,

Not sure what you mean. Should I have not posted a link to a workbook?

Howard

Record/register your proposal here. If needed, reference an external workbook. The latter action only is pretty useless in a foreseeable future (will last less than this board, if I may add such a hope) and less convenient.

So are you saying I should have explained what was on the example sheet and then posted a link to a "permanent" site somewhere (like the one you posted) that has a definitive example and text explanation?

I did not post a link to any workbook in this thread...

Assign numeric values to grades, find out the average, round up to nearest integer and display the associated grade?

Edit: I only looked at the first couple posts. Sorry.

Yes, I understand it was not a workbook, it was

Excel Assigning Numeric Values to Letter Grades (& vice versa)

which is a "permanent" site I think.

Just tell me what I am doing wrong and I will try to avoid it in the future.

If a would-be helper has a solution, s/he should show the solution on the board itself. If it is opportune to do so, s/he could post in addidition a link to a workbook showing/implementing the solution.

If a help seeker wants a solution, s/he should describe the problem on the board, post a sample on the board itself, not refer
the would-be helpers to a workbook or an image outside the board.

Hope this is clear.
