Hi, I'm trying to run a bat file from a vba macro. I've used x = shell("AllCopy.bat",1) and it runs but it doesn't do what its supposed to (i.e copy files into folders). please help!

The cmd /c open a DOS window and closes it after it completes the task. The other commands are DOS commands. You can type the command at DOS prompt and a /? to get help or Help Commandname.

Dir *.* lists the contents of the current folder. > is a redirection operator that sends the output of the Dir command to the text file on the right. Of course vbHide hides the DOS window opened by cmd.
