Hi,

I have a list with customer names listed. I.e. Joe, Joe, Joe, Peter, Frank, Mark, Peter. This list consist of 7 records and 4 unique customers.

Is there a function where i can calculate the number of unique names in a colom with so i get the number 4.

thanks

What is =ROMAN(40) in Excel?
The Roman numeral for 40 is XL. Bill "MrExcel" Jelen's 40th book was called MrExcel XL.
Colin quoted a link that shows how to do conditional count of unique items. What you need is simpler:

1]

=SUM(IF(Range<>"",1/COUNTIF(Range,Range)))

which must be confirmed with control+shift+enter instead of just with enter.

2]

=SUMPRODUCT((Range<>"")/COUNTIF(Range,Range&""))

which just needs enter.
