hi,i'm new here, just wanted to know is there any way we can predict the 1st digit of a six digit random number,by the list of last year draws like:
for 2012
jan 646399
feb 012896
march 856963
april 423566
may 754869
june 556986
july ?????
like is there any formula or any way we can predict even the first digit?
thnx
p.s: kindly do post replies

again thanks all,@stuart_W...i also said i have 3 to 5 tries to make it happen and its only the first digit,i have to chose from 0 to 9,as i have narrowed
it down,now can it happen?
Unless the question you asked originally is not what you meant to ask, the answer is still no. You do not seem to be understanding the concept of a random number... it is random, consider that another word for unpredictable, you simply cannot predict it no matter how many times you guess at it. I'll repeat what I said earlier... random numbers have no memory, no matter what random numbers were drawn before, they have absolutely no predictive properties as to what the next random number is going to be.

Excel Facts

Remove leading & trailing spaces
Save as CSV to remove all leading and trailing spaces. It is faster than using TRIM().
"I don't think you are listening. If the numbers are random, then no. (unless you have 10 tries for one number so you can guess every possibility)"

But unless I'm mistaken that's not quite what the OP is asking and would assume that they receive information (TRUE/FALSE) regarding each of their guesses.

I am going to sleep for the night now, but I want to leave you with a question that the other responders can follow up with depending on your answer. Suppose I flip a "fair" coin 10 times and it comes up heads all 10 times... what do you think the odds are that the next coin flip will be another heads?

I took this:

is there any way if i can make a better guess of an upcoming number,i mean if i have three tries to guess
what the first digit can be from 0-9,can i guess it in these three tries?

to mean 3 guesses for the next number, not 3 guesses for the next 3 numbers.

I know, but it still assumes that there is someone/thing who answers each of your three guesses with "Correct"/"Incorrect".

Basically, if that's the case then the OP's question has changed distinctly from 'predicting' to 'guessing' (and receiving answers to those guesses) a number from a random set.

Predicting is guessing. ;)

No need for an answerer - just make three predictions and see if one of them is correct when the number is revealed.

Anyway, the whole thing is pointless so I think I'll go and find some other questions. :)

I guess you could build a system based on that. That would surely maximize your chances to win. :)

This reminds me of a interview to a Las Vegas casino manager, that I saw some time ago. I remember him saying: "We love people with a system".
