Overview: Looking for direction on the capability described below. Need general directions to know if this is feasible and list the topics that I should go study.

Objective: Store MS Access database and complex set of Excel macros on a server. This will serve about 30 to 40 individuals.

My Vision: Install mini-macro on 40 computers in the VBA Personal Folder section with icon on tool bar to execute mini-macro. Only function of Mini-macro will be to download Big-macro and start it running. Big-macro will download data from the databases and help users analyze data. User will export analyzed data back to an Access database.

My Question: Am I dreaming to big? Is this scenario feasible? Can someone shove me down the right path:) Point to reference material? Examples?

Hi Howellga,
so you want to use Access for the data storage and Excel for the user front-end? That sounds as a good plan, but I don't understand your small macro -> big macro step... "A macro" in your example means a .vb script? Or an Excel workbook with some macro in it? I would go for a simple option where you have one protected master Excel that everybody can/should copy to their own directory, with that tool they can read info from the database (and maybe write some data back). You could even integrate a small "version check" into that tool, where it e.g. checks that same network folder for a txt file with the last version and tell the user to update its tool.
I don't know what data your user needs to download/analyse, but most of the times I connect a (pivot) table in the Excel to pull in the data from Access.
Hope that helps you a bit?
