Data Validation

Please can someone help.

I have a spreadsheet with data validation drop down lists so no one can freely type in that cell. What they can do though is cut and paste over so the data validation disappears.

Is there any way that this can be protected so that no one can cut and paste over? Unfortunately I cannot use VBA as a solution.

Thanks

Does the VLOOKUP table have to be sorted?
No! when you are using an exact match, the VLOOKUP table can be in any order. Best-selling items at the top is actually the best.
No. If you protect the sheet the cell must be unlocked for the user to be able to select a value from the dropdown. But if the cell is unlocked, the user may paste into that cell. Unfortunately the permissions for sheet protection are not sufficiently fine-grained to meet this very common requirement. (The same problem occurs with formatting, especially conditional formatting.) Microsoft has been busy with things like adding the Lambda function rather than fundamental needs like this.

VBA is the usual solution for this.
