Excel Formula Needed

Good day,

I am wondering if it would be possible to use an excel formula (IF or something) to count entries with 'awaiting' statuses that are due to be completed today. Sort of a two criteria - count?

VLOOKUP to Left?
Use =VLOOKUP(A2,CHOOSE({1,2},$Z$1:$Z$99,$Y$1:$Y$99),2,False) to lookup Y values to left of Z values.
How about
Excel Formula:
=COUNTIFS(F:F,"awaiting",A:A,B1)
