Hello All:

Hoping you can help me with this problem:

Date Vendor Purpose Amount Auto Books Dues Entertainment Ground Transportation Office

I need to populate the fields after Amount with the contents of the Amount cell based on the Purpose field, for example

10/20 XYZ Books 50.00 50.00(result would be in the Books Column

Right now I'm entering formulas manually line by line and its tedious and time consuming. Please let me know if you need more information. Thank you!

Excel Facts

Formula for Yesterday
Name Manager, New Name. Yesterday =TODAY()-1. OK. Then, use =YESTERDAY in any cell. Tomorrow could be =TODAY()+1.
Welcome to the Board!

Let's say that you have columns A-J, and that your purpose field is column C, Amount field is column D, Books field is column E, etc.
And that you first row of data is in row 2.
Then enter this formula in cell E2 and copy all the way to column J for all your rows:
Code:
=IF($C2=E$1,$D2,0)

By using the Absolute Range References ($) is the correct places, we are able to lock certain row/column references down, while allowing others to move as we copy down and across. See this for more details: http://www.excel-easy.com/functions/cell-references.html
