I need to create a formula that will look at a 10 digit number in column S of Sheet 1 and see if it appears in row A of sheet 2. If it finds the exact number in column A of sheet 2, I want it to return a true value, if it doesn't find it, I want it to return a false value.

Is this an IF function or a LOOKUP function?

What did Pito Salas invent?
Pito Salas, working for Lotus, popularized what would become to be pivot tables. It was released as Lotus Improv in 1989.
Row A or column A in sheet 2?

For Column A:
Code:
=IF(ISERROR(VLOOKUP(S1, Sheet2!A:A,1,0)), FALSE, S1)

For Row A (Row 1):
Code:
=IF(ISERROR(HLOOKUP(S1, Sheet2!1:1,1,0)), FALSE, S1)

=ISNUMBER(MATCH(S2,Sheet2!A:A,0))

would be adequate and fast.

Thank you!! This one would have worked for me except I should have mentioned that I want to identify what the true and false values are.

Sorry I should have mentioned this.

IsNumber/Match will automatically give you TRUE when a match is successful and FALSE otherwise. The formula is faster than a COUNTIF set up.
