Getting value on Y axis by putting X axis value

Hello to all the experts of Excel,

I still can not figure out the way to get the values in a chart/graph by putting an specific X axis value.

e.g.

There is relation between Gauge height and Flow

If I draw the curve with Flow on X-axis and Gage on Y-axis and then want to know the flow at Gage 0.53m.

OR

By putting flow value to know Gage height.

hey John, how to solve pwf with known other parameters for this formula using excel?
that 3rd question, i dont know how to solve it either get the value from the graph and also calculate it.

I realize this is an old post, but this is the exact situation I have(gauge vs flow) and have a question. I followed what you did and was able to get the same answer as you, but how, how, how do you get the interpolation to work on the graph. I can get my gauge curve to show, but making the interpolation appear in the right spot on the graph has me completely baffled. Using the previous examples data (from the original poster, where you showed the graphs), can I get some guidance on how to do this?

All I did was add a series to the chart, using the X and Y of the interpolated point. If you remembered to use an XY Scatter plot, it should work fine.

How is your added point not plotted correctly? (In what way is it incorrect?)

I am obviously going wrong somewhere in my chart as the point is not on my curve, it shows up above the curve line. I did use the xy scatter. Forgive my stupidity... this isn't what I normally do in excel.

Oh! I got it! I had the flow data instead of the gauge data selected. I switched it around and poof! Red square on the blue line! I must say this has been the most useful excel website for me to use. I browse the forums often and can usually find a solution to my woes. Thank you for all you do, and your attention to detail. Reading your post today helped me realize my simple (stupid) error. Thank you!

Yes, this is the best Excel forum anywhere. The level of answers is good, and they won't give you crap for a silly mistake. I mean, sure, we might laugh a little, but we remember when that was us.

Dear Jon (or anyone else who could possibly help me),

I am not sure if this thread is still active, but I would first like to say that the advice on this page has already helped me a lot with my analysis, I am very pleased to have found your posts. Secondly, I was wondering if you knew whether it is possible to change the formula (in the post posted on the 16th of August 2011 (10:15)) somehow so that it works with a set of data that is decreasing over time? The formula on this page works very well for me if the data is increasing over time, but not vice versa.

Any help with this would be very much appreciated.

Cell B3 should be changed to
=MATCH(B2,B6:B18,-1)
Everything else should stay as is.
