Help SEtting rows to columns

I know for columns to rows you would put :
=INDEX($M$287:$AW$287,COLUMNS(CQ12:CQ12),1)

put when I tried to do:

=INDEX($M$287:$AW$287,ROWS(CQ12:CQ12),1)

it does not work. What do I need to do to set some rows equal to some columns.

If I understand right...

1. Columns To Rows = A2=B1, A3=C1, A4=D1, A5=E1, A6=F1
=INDEX($M$287:$AW$287,1,ROWS($A$1:A1))

2. Rows to Columns = B1=A2, C1=A3, D1=A4, E1=A5, F1=A6
=INDEX($M$287:$M$300,COLUMNS($A$1:A1),1)

Maybe I have the names reversed,
(columns to rows)+(rows to columns) = Head Spinning. LOL

Perhaps the top set is Rows To Columns, and the Bottom Set is Columns To Rows...
I guess it depends how you look at it...
