"Homework" needs looking at - Advice Would Be Appreciated.

Hello everyone

So I have started to learn about loops (and finally starting to get my head around them) and arrays. So I tried to test what I was learning and came up with a very basic code that places multiple values into an array and place them somewhere else (It's just copy and paste without the copy or paste) as I wanted to see if I was understanding the way it all worked.

The code (which works as intended) is below.

Dim PosArray(1 To 10) As String
Dim Pos As Integer
Dim Rng As Integer
Dim LastCell As Range
Dim LastCellRowNumber As Integer
Dim WS As Worksheet
Dim P As Integer


Pos = 1


For Rng = 10 To 16
    PosArray(Pos) = Cells(Rng, 2).Value
    Cells(Rng, 10).Offset(-9).Value = PosArray(Pos)
    Pos = Pos + 1
Next Rng

My questions are...Am I using too many variables? Anything else that should be brought to my attention?

Am I using too many variables?

I do not think so. Descriptive variables will help you. In time, you may shorten the names of the variables.


Good luck with your homework, and, learning VBA.

For my own personal preference, I do not use the Integer Data Type variables, which can only count from -32,768 To 32,767.

I use the Long Data Type variables, which can count from -2,147,483,648 to 2,147,483,647.

You say you are learning loops and arrays so what you are doing is fair enough. Note, though that a range of cells can be read into an array all at once and that array can be written back to a worksheet all at once. For example, to read B10:B16 into an array and put those values back to J1:J7, you could use this

Sub Array_In_Out()
  Dim DataArray As Variant
  
  DataArray = Cells(10, 2).Resize(7).Value
  Range("J1").Resize(7).Value = DataArray
End Sub
