I have both Office 2007 and 2010 installed on my computer. I would like to open .xls and .xlsx files with Excel 2010, not 2007. I went into control panel/default programs and changed the program associated with .xlsx and .xls to the EXCEL.EXE in office14 folder. Still, when I double clicked the file, it was Excel 2007 that opened the file. I renamed the 2007's EXCEL.EXE to EXCEL 2007.EXE. When I double clicked the file, Office reinstalled the 2007 version of EXCEL.EXE.

I don't want to uninstall Office 2007. What should I do to have Office 2010 open .xlsx files? Thanks.

Excel Facts

Copy formula down without changing references
If you have =SUM(F2:F49) in F50; type Alt+' in F51 to copy =SUM(F2:F49) to F51, leaving the formula in edit mode. Change SUM to COUNT.
Does it work if you ensure that excel 2010 is opened prior to opening the .xlsx file (Assuming you are opening the file externally and not from the excel file menu)

This works at my workplace, where we have two different versions on the system...........
