How to sum time when reported in general format

I have an issue where a report shows time in the format hh:mm:ss but has been saved in general format and I can't sum these, how can I resolve to get a sum of time? Thanks

Hi Steve it shows 00:00:00. I managed to get the source report changed so the problem is fixed but I would be interested to research if there is a another fix in case I encounter the same problem and cannot get the source altered, thanks. Hot in the Midlands isn't it?
