I'm trying to set up a logical if/then formula, but not sure how. Here is what I need:

I have a 5-digit number and if the first 3 digits are a specific string, I need it to return all five digits, but if the first 3 digits are not the specific string, I need it to only return the first 3 digits.

For example:
If the number is 29210, I want to return the numbers 292 (only the first 3 digits)
If the number is 29930, I want to return the numbers 29930 (all 5 digits).

Any suggestions?

Show numbers in thousands?
Use a custom number format of #,##0,K. Each comma after the final 0 will divide the displayed number by another thousand
Hi ,

I am not sure about the logic , since there is only one sample to go by. See if this helps :

=IF(LEFT(E6,3) = 299&"", E6, LEFT(E6, 3)) + 0
