Hello,

I'm a novice and nouveau user of Access 2010. I have the concept of Lookups down. What I'm trying to figure out is how to use the lookup to pull info by my primary key, but display different descriptive info.

I have a field which selects colors using a lookup to a diff table. I want to denote each color with a primary key which will always be unique, but then see the actual name of the color. I'll eventually use a query to pull the info in.

Thank you!

Excel Facts

Format cells as currency
Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+4 to format cells as currency. (Shift 4 is the $ sign).
The field you are joining on and the field you are returning do not need to be the same field.
See: MS Access: DLookup Function

You could also just do a simple query between the two tables, linking them, and returning the fields you want.

Looks like the query is what I'm actually trying to accomplish. Figuring that out now.

But your answer sparked another q: where do I use the DLookup f(x)? In SQL? Sorry, this seems like a bumbling q

DLOOKUP if a function that you would use in a calculated field in a query.

If you give more specifics of what your structure is and exactly what you are trying to do, we can probably help.
